Public course - innovative new pricing policy

In an industry first approach, PRO-ATTIVO has introduced a new pricing policy that is designed to give significant cost savings to our clients.

We have introduced a tiered system whereby the greater number of attendees that are confirmed on to a course the greater the discount for all of those attendees. For example, if the itSMF Auditor public course currently has 4 people booked on to it, then each person would be charged £600/€720 for their course fee.

However, if an additional person was to book on to the course then all 5 confirmed attendees would benefit as they would each be charged £550/€660 for their course fee.

No later than 2 weeks before the course start date the course fee will be fixed based upon how many people in total have reserved their place.

The more that our customers encourage others to attend our courses the cheaper the price is for everyone.

PRO-ATTIVO's Stuart Wright to speak at itSMF UK event

Although head of the training practice for Pro-Attivo Stuart is in the enviable position where he spends as much time on ISO/IEC 20000 consulting projects as delivering training. He has been the lead consultant working with Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) to help them refine and optimize their IT service management operations.

Business Services ICT are the internal IT service provider for SMBC. They have an ISO/IEC 20000 project which has them on target to achieve certification later this year. As with most organisations seeking certification, this has to be achieved without impact on the ‘day job’ and in conjunction with the delivery of a number of other projects.

Continual service improvement is a fundamental requirement within the ISO/IEC 20000 standard and as such there must be clear evidence that improvements are being assessed, recorded, prioritized, authorized and bring business benefit. Alongside Derrick Taylor of SMBC, their presentation includes the main drivers behind the project, the approach taken by BS ICT and the lessons they’ve learned. They hope that this presentation will help, and encourage, others to review and improve the way they deliver and support their IT services.

Launch of pins supporting the EXIN ISO/IEC 20000 Qualification Program

The pins are designed as reflection of the Navigating Eye logo which represents the philosophies behind the new qualification program. The program provides orientation and it can be used as a compass to navigate the best practice universe. The Navigating Eye represents experience in finding trustworthy solutions. The conference and train the trainer sessions were held in two major Chinese cities, Beijing and Shanghai. From October 8th to the 10th (Beijing) and 13th to 15th October (Shanghai) professionals had the opportunity to explore issues of IT training and certification together in a three-day program.

“We are very excited to see the enthusiasm of the market for this conference. This was an excellent opportunity for EXIN to show that it has strong experience and an extensive network to support this emerging market,” said Sun Zhenpeng, regional manager of EXIN China and organizer of the conference. In total, over 300 delegates attended the events.

Guest speakers
The first day of the conference was an informative event with leading professionals as guest speakers. David Clifford, EXIN expert and key strategist, was invited to discuss the different best practice models from an international perspective. He also provided a detailed insight in to the new EXIN IT Service Management qualification program according to ISO/IEC 20000, specifically the foundation qualification. Nora Joosten, Team Manager of the EXIN Exam Development Team, spoke of the overall program.

ISO 20000 Update (BS 15000 internationalization)

As previously reported, BS 15000 has been submitted to ISO for approval as an international standard, the number allocated to the proposed standard is ISO 20000. The standard is currently in the "Enquiry Stage" and is being reviewed by the various international standards bodies, a ballot will be completed five months from the inception date of 26 November 2004, therefore the votes will be in by 26 April 2005. The next stage will be for ISO to summarise the votes including observations made and then hopefully if successful the standard will enter the "Approval Stage" prior to the "Publication Stage". We will be keeping a close eye on progress and will report back here in due course...

BSi announce fast track submission of BS 15000 to ISO

Today the British Standards Institution announced that BS 15000, the standard for IT Service Management, has been submitted for internationalization. A ballot will be required from 23 countries, this is expected to close around the middle of 2005 with hopes that the full international standard will be published before the end of 2005. The standard will be known as ISO/IEC 20000.

itSMF (UK) Annual Conference

The annual conference takes place in Brighton, England, from Monday 8th to Wednesday 10th November. This year has seen an unprecedented number of vendors/delegates register. On Monday there will be a series of BS 15000 sessions held focusing on the latest standard news. The itSMF BS 15000 Executive Sub-Committee are also running a number of pre-booked 1:1 sessions where delegates can ask very specific questions regarding their own BS 15000 strategy. EXIN recently announced the launch of their new ISO/IEC 20000 qualification scheme. PRO-ATTIVO have provided expert assistance to complement EXIN's own skills in developing the new qualification scheme including contributing to the development of the scheme structure, qualification specification and question production.

The Foundation Level is aimed at all ITSM staff and those who interact with them. It provides an overview of the standard and an insight in to the profile of an ISO/IEC 20000 ready service provider.

The next level up is the Professional Level which provides practical guidance on how ISO/IEC 20000 can be satisfied, eg. how would you implement or refine the Change, Configuration, Release and Planning & Implementing New or Changed Service processes within the context of the standard.

The final level is split in to two tracks. The Management Track provides guidance on cultural change, cabapability assessments and the creation of key managemeny system documents such as policies and frameworks. The Auditing Track provides guidance on auditing techniques and the rigour required as a Lead Auditor.

Dr. Jenny Dugmore is a Director of Service Matters. Jenny will present regarding "The Impact of ITIL®3 with regards to ISO/IEC 20000 - The IT Service Management Standard". She is a member of itSMF's Certification Management Board. Jenny was Project Editor for ISO/IEC 20000 drafting and chairs the group responsible for ISO/IEC 20000. She is acting as a link between the work on ISO/IEC 20000 and the ITIL® refresh project. In 2005 itSMF awarded her the Paul Rappaport Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to service management.

Shirley Lacy who is a Director of Connectsphere. She is an ITIL® Version 3 author and will address "The Detail of ITIL® 3". The updates to the ITIL® service management body of knowledge introduce service management from a life-cycle perspective, as opposed to just a process-based view. ITIL® 3 covers strategic considerations, the design implications, the cultural and organizational change implications of implementing new or changed services and service management as a practice. Adopting and adapting ITIL® 3 will enable service providers to deliver superior services in this dynamic world. Shirley is Managing Director of ConnectSphere, a consultancy and education company that specialises in service management and configuration management solutions. Shirley has extensive experience in service and process improvement across a range of industries and has managed many process improvement implementations with experience spanning the globe.

Alejandro Debenedet, EXIN's International Account Manager will present regarding "The new qualification scheme" and comment on the EXIN/BCS-ISEB Alliance. Alejandro was the Founder and President of itSMF Argentina and is their International representative. He is qualified to the highest level within IT Service Management holding both the IT Service Manager and ISO/IEC 20000 Consultant qualifications. His experience is built upon a strong consultancy and training background.

Chris Miles who has worked for Getronics (formerly PinkRoccade and Pink Elephant) for over 10 years fulfilling a variety of Service Management focused roles will present regarding the "The practical impact of ITIL® 3 on the industry". APM Group announce agreement with EXIN and BCS-ISEB - ITIL Version 3

Today the APM Group have announced that the current ITIL Version 2 examination institutes, EXIN and BCS-ISEB have signed contracts which will allow the institutes to offer ITIL Version 3 qualifications.

Stuart Wright, Head of Training Practice at PRO-ATTIVO commented, "This is fantastic news for the industry. There was a very real danger of the industry becoming polarised. From 1 July 2007 the institutes will be able to continue with their ITIL association with Version 3".

This service focuses upon establishing a solid project based foundation to manage BS 15000 gap closure. Sometimes it is difficult to know where to start with the BS 15000 Service Improvement Programme (SIP). We get the project up on its feet and then hand over to your own staff to continue to manage the project thus striking a balance between cost and risk management. Of course, if you prefer we can provide an on-going management capability. Principal Consultant to speak at two itSMF events

David Clifford [FISM], will be speaking at two special ISO/IEC 20000 events in the coming months.

The first will be the itSMF ISO/IEC 20000 Special Interest Group meeting taking place at Pilkington in the North of England. The SIG was established by the itSMF to promote self-help and sharing of experiences with regards to the standard. The event will take place on Thursday 25th May. Representing the Institute of Service Management, David will focus on the people aspects of the standard. The second event will be an itSMF hosted ISO/IEC 20000 Seminar that will be taking place in Cambridge on Thursday 20th July. David Clifford is a Fellow of the Institute of Service Management [FISM] and Vice President for Marketing and Promotion of the ISM. David has travelled around the world assisting organizations to achieve and retain the standard [including the North America, Africa, Continental Europe and AsiaPac regions].

He is recognized as one of the world's leading consultants and lecturers in this field with experience that spans back to the early days in 2001 of the forerunner to this standard BS 15000. He was also involved in establishing and promoting the itSMF certification scheme against which organizations are certified and has assisted the BSi with reviewing the "Achieving ISO/IEC 20000" series of books. ISO/IEC 20000 Accredited Training from January 2006

The itSMF have confirmed that we will be able to offer ISO/IEC 20000 accredited training from January 2006. All of our BS 15000 courses will transition to the new standard from this date. Our site will be updated within the next two weeks to reflect these changes. In the meantime please continue to book using our booking form. The course content will be ostensibly the same with minor differences surrounding the changes in the standard itself which can be summarised as follows : * Formatting changes * Re-wording changes that do not affect the intent of the BS 15000 requirement * 16 requirement changes, 7 of which occur in a single clause and none of them are radical from an IT Service Management point of view

Australia embraces the BS 15000 standard

This week Standards Australia announced the launch of their national standard AS8018. Apart from minor changes to the preface/introduction the standard remains ostensibly the same as BS 15000. Other national bodies are also progressing with similar strategies ahead of BS 15000 becoming an international standard.

We are pleased to announce that our course delegates are maintaining our 100% pass rate for itSMF Accredited BS 15000 Consultant and Auditor Courses. The average for all itSMF Accredited Course Providers is 73% (Consultant) and 90% (Auditor), so our delegates are achieving significantly above the average. We have now completed training in the UK, South Africa and the USA with courses to follow in Holland and Mexico. ISO/IEC 20000 Published

Today marks a significant step forward for BS 15000 with the launch of ISO/IEC 20000. The new standard is available for download from www.iso.org. We intend to publish further information regarding the new standard before the year end.

ISO 20000 publication date - 15th December 2005

ISO/IEC 20000:2005 will be published on the 15th December 2005. The BSi have confirmed that BS 15000 will be retired immediately on publication of its ISO equivalent. ISO 20000 will be ostensibly the same as BS 15000 with some wording changes, restructuring of part 2 sequence numbers to bring it in line with part 1 and some minor requirement refinements. Our TRAINING will be revised to reflect the minor differences between the standards from the start of 2006. From 18th November a briefing note detailing our view of the implications for certified organisations, those that are going through preparation for certification currently, accredited individuals and training providers will be produced. This will be revised as soon as the official strategy has been published, date TBD. In the meantime we remain very close to developments as members of the itSMF Qualification & Certification Committee.

South African version of BS 15000 launched

Standards South Africa (STANSA), a division of the South African Standards Bureau (SABS) have announced the launch of their national version of BS 15000. This is known as SANS 15000-1 (2003-11-07), Part 1 of the standard - the specification, and SANS 15000-2 (2003-11-07), part 2 - the code of practice. This follows on from the successful launch of the Australian standard AS 8018 last year. The momentum is accelerating, next month will see voting day within the International Standards Organization (ISO) regarding BS 15000 becoming an international standard (ISO 20000). BS 15000 Certification Scheme Launched

Today the itSMF announced the launch of the certification scheme for BS 15000, the world's Service Management standard. The scheme is designed to provide a structured, repeatable and consistent framework for certification. The award of the BS 15000 certificate follows an audit by Registered Certification Bodies (RCBs). The RCBs assess a company's capability to meet the standard. Where successful a certificate is awarded and follow up "surveillance audits" are performed every 6-12 months and focus on previous areas of concern/samples of the Service Management capability. On the third anniversary of the initial award the RCB will perform a full repeat assessment. As part of the scheme rules RCBs are allowed to assess but not recommend how any gaps should be closed, this is to maintain impartiality. pro-attivo fill this void by offering a streamlined set of services specifically designed to support your BS 15000 strategy.
